Book Chat: The Sounds of Macondo – Musical Interpretations of One Hundred Years of Solitude

Overview

Qatar National Library, in collaboration with the Embassy of Colombia in Qatar, welcomes the Colombian composer, pianist, and singer Oriana da Marte for a special Book Chat session exploring the connection between literature and music through Gabriel García Márquez’s renowned novel One Hundred Years of Solitude.

At the heart of the novel is Macondo, a fictional town that has become one of literature’s most iconic settings and a symbol of imagination, memory, and the Latin American experience.

Inspired by her award-winning album Un Viaje a Macondo, Oriana brings the novel’s themes, atmosphere, and magical realism to life through original musical compositions. Combining literary discussion with live musical performance, the session offers audiences a unique opportunity to engage with one of Latin America’s most influential literary works through a new artistic perspective.
