The Cubist Self-Portraits

Overview

This dynamic workshop invites participants to explore the expressive visual language of M.F. Husain through a hands-on, contemporary reinterpretation of his modified Cubist approach. Known for his bold lines, fragmented forms, and emotive compositions, Husain’s style offers a powerful lens through which to examine identity and self-representation.

Participants will work from either a personal photograph or their live reflection in a mirror to create a compelling self-portrait. Guided step-by-step, they will learn to break down facial features into geometric shapes, use rigid and expressive linework, and experiment with spatial distortion—hallmarks of Husain’s technique. Emphasis will be placed on capturing character and emotion rather than producing a realistic likeness, encouraging each participant to embrace abstraction and creative interpretation.

By the end of the session, attendees will have produced a striking Cubist-inspired self-portrait that reflects both their individuality and the artistic influence of M.F. Husain. This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in modern art, expressive drawing techniques, or discovering new ways to translate personal identity into visual form.
