From Sand to Sand: Tracing 180 Years of the Finland–Arabia Cultural Bridge

Overview

Celebrating the strong and growing cultural ties between Qatar and Finland, this special event honors the legacy of Professor Georg August Wallin (1811–1852), the Finnish scholar and explorer whose journeys across the Arabian Peninsula helped establish one of the earliest intellectual bridges between Finland and the Arab world.

Building on Wallin’s historical works preserved in Qatar National Library’s Heritage Library collection, the event brings together Qatar National Library, the Embassy of Finland, the Finnish Institute in the Middle East (FIME), and Georgetown University in Qatar for an inspiring evening of scholarship, discovery, and cultural dialogue.

Join us for an engaging evening of scholarly insights into Wallin’s journeys, his contributions to the study and understanding of the Arabian Peninsula, and the publication of his works in Arabic.
