Librarians for Libraries: Designing Engaging and Effective Library Instruction

Overview

Qatar National Library, as the IFLA MENA Regional Office, invites you to the Librarians for Libraries program, which aims to develop librarianship skills in the MENA region through virtual sessions covering a variety of topics.

Library instruction can easily become a routine demonstration of databases, search techniques, and library resources. While these skills are important, students may struggle to see how they connect to their academic work. Long demonstrations can also make it difficult to maintain attention and encourage active participation.

How can librarians move from simply delivering information to designing learning experiences that students remember and apply?

By using active learning, authentic scenarios, storytelling, problem-solving, and learner-centered approaches, librarians can make instruction more relevant and effective.

This workshop will give participants the opportunity to rethink one of their existing library instruction sessions and explore practical ways to make it more interactive, engaging, and meaningful.
